Easy guide to private deliverance

I am sharing my quick guide on spiritual warfare.  These are not meant to substitute the roman rite of exorcism but is meant to supplement our faith.

Deliverance is a special type of prayer that anyone can use when they felt they are being harrassed by evil spirits.

Notice: this is not a magic devise and must be prayed with faith

Prayer for Deliverance of persons or places1
Re-printed with permission from the Fr. Jocis Syqia
Distributed by: Mr. Aljoriz Dublin
Reminders:
  1. Only use this when you feel you are being harassed by spirits, being sick due to their attacks.
  2. Pray with faith and NOT superstition: i.e. “Jesus & Mama Mary is watching over me. I am theirs”
  3. Before prayer, feel the presence and love of God.
  4. All prayers must be recited save for those indicated for your personal prayers.
  5. Ask the Holy Spirit to be with you.
  6. If possible wear scapulars and the medal of St. Benedict

Step1: (make a sign of the cross)
Prayer for protection
“Jesus Crucified, cover me, my family, my relatives, my friends and all our possession with your precious blood” (3x)

Step2: Prayer for armor
I put on God's armor to resist the devil's tactics. I stand my ground with truth buckled around my waist and integrity for a breastplate. I carry the shield of faith to put out the arrows of the evil one. I accept salvation from God to be my helmet and receive the word of God from the spirit to use as a sword.”

Step3: Prayer for Deliverance
(Done with a commanding voice, if possible sprinkle the holy water while praying)
In the name of Jesus of Nazareth, through his tremendous as God and through his most powerful and salvific name. I repudiate, rebuke, bind, cast out all spirits not of the holy spirit.
I command you, in the name of Jesus to depart right now from (state the name of the person or place) and go immediately and directly to the foot of the cross and to never return.

(prayer to the holy spirit and ask for infilling)
O most holy spirit, enter into the empty spaces left by these spirits and fill (state name of the person or place) with your presence, love and protection. Pls. do not allow these spirits to return.

Step4: Prayer to the Angels
(your own personal prayer to the angles to stand guard and remain on these places or persons)

Step5: Prayer for cleansing.
Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ our lord and savior by the power of the holy spirit. We pray that the cleansing power of the precious blood of your son come upon us right now. Purify and wash us clean with the blood of Jesus from the top of our head to the very soles of our feet. Let this blood penetrate the very marrow of our bones to cleanse us from any entanglement from what ever spirit we have come in contact with during the course of our intercession. Anoint us with the gifts of the holy spirit and may the sign of the holy cross drive away all evil spirits away from us.

(sign of the cross) In the name of the Father, of the son and of the Holy spirit. AMEN

Step 6: Prayer for Thanksgiving (make a personal prayer to God for this purpose)

Prayer for the middle aged

This is among the  beautiful prayers I have come across and it is amusing to use at times.

It is my hope that you will also find this prayer beautiful and useful.
Lord, you know I am growing older.
Keep me from becoming talkative and possessed w/ the idea
that I must express myself on every subject.

Release me from the craving to straighten out everyone's affairs.
Keep me from the recital of endless details.
Give me wings to get to the point.
Seal my lips when I am inclined to tell of my aches and pains.
They are increasing with the years,
and my love to speak of them grows sweeter as time goes by.

Teach me the glorious lesson tha toccasionaly I may be wrong.
Make me thoughtful and not nosy,
helpful and not bossy.

With my vast store of wisdom & experience,
it is a pity not to use them all.
But you know, Lord, that I want a few friends in the end.

AMEN

A world w/o Wikipedia.

Jan. 18, 2012 Philippines saw the blacking of wikipedia in protest to the SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) pending at the U.S. Congress.

As a result students were not able to plagiarize er research for ther assignments.

My personal opinion is a world without wikipedia will be a world of challenge as students will be force to go to their school library and research.  Online encyclopedias like wikipedia only encourage academic complacency.

I hope to see a renaissance period in education where students would flock to their library opening moth ridden books, borrowing them and talking about it with their friends.

Until that happens, I will be using wikipedia for the time being.

Deliverance and Exorcism: A Diary of a layman#1

Just one day after the attacks some students in a particular school.  Another case sprang, I took it upon myself to do the Deliverance Prayer.

After the person has came back to her senses, I now have the following insight:

  1. Deliverance Prayer even in a private capacity is draining for a person.
This means that after the Deliverance, the Deliverance Team was exhausted in all aspects of their person.  Physically, emotionally and spiritually.
  2. Crowd control is a must.
People will always be intrigued by the paranormal.  It can not be avoided that Kibitzers (uzisero in Tagalog) will attempt to join; unwittingly they can only exacerbate the situation.
  3. Pray with good intentions.
Prayer must come from the heart, not out of some sick egotistic sense of pride.
  4. Learn to be Thankful
Be Thankful to the people around you and the gift of life.
Indeed as it is writted in Luke 1:37: "For with God nothing will be impossible.”
AD MEIOREM DEI GLORIAM!!!

Myths on exorcism

Today I witnessed an oppression.
Oppression is an external attack by spirits to a person.

I was scared, really!  I am not even sure if I was of any help.  What are the myths on exorcism that I'd like to tackle?

1.  Only priest can perform exorcism?
A half truth!  We have a private exorcism or private deliverance prayers that the lay people can use.  We must bear in mind that prayer must be with faith and not superstition.  Its hard to see if the prayer was whole done with faith or superstition during a deliverance session.

2.  Praying over a person will immediately remove the demonic oppression / possession (both terms are different theologically speaking).
Blame that on our culture of instant gratification.  We wanted cure instantly.  If our prayers are not answer immediately we either sulk or lose faith.  Deliverance may even take hours or even years.  its not for people with little patience.

After I was saying deliverance prayers, someone asked me if the Gideon's Bible may have contributed to what happened (some students were playing spirit of the coin, a poor man's version of the spirit of the glass).

It goes without saying that we must acquaint ourselves more with our faith.  The good news? The fact that almost everyone took a knee and prayed. Now, that in itself was power!

May the Holy Spirit keep you safe!

Defense against the dark arts!

Me wearing yellow the color of Fear (according to Thal Sinestro of the Green Lantern myth anyway).  On my right is Fr. Jose Francisco Syquia who is an author on the book on Exorcism published by Shepherd's Voice Publications.

The Devil is a real!
he tempts us daily, even in my dreams he stalks me.  Sometimes he uses rationalism like when I was tempted to study divination (which I did for 2weeks).  In College, I studied Hypnotism; tried to hypnotize myself and didn't work; I quit.

Studying divination was a different matter.  Tried to let the Tarot cards read my past and it did read it so accurately that I was scared witless.  On the evening of the same day, I had a dreamt I was killed by someone stabbing me.  In my dream, I shouted and pleaded telling myself to wake up.  Took a long time for me to wake and when I did I was sweating profusely.

I immediately confessed to a Priest but still there are times my dreams are not good.

These events transpired last year, despite my service as a lay man.  The devil used my own reasoning power against me.  From the seminar, I learned that Satan is real, as is his minions.  He would prefer it if you didn't believe in him; makes his job easier.

To see within me is to see myself
The seminar lead me to many things:
  • Catholic apologetics, where no catholic ever says sorry in his effort to defend his faith (why call it apologetics when they don't apologize is beyond me, this is an attempt to humor albeit a crude one).
  • Appreciating the gift of life
  • Rekindling a devotion to the Holy Rosary.
The seminar may have ended but the as Niko Kazantzakis wrote:
"My principle anguish and the source of all my joys and sorrows from my youth onward has been the incessant, merciless battle between the spirit and the flesh."
and so the war continues on....

Art or not?

I just read about that CCP Kulo Exhibit and found this art to be really offensive to Catholic / Christian sensibilities here's a sample:
The middle part that the guy is looking at is very disturbing.  WoW!  The artist really knows how to attract attention and scandal.

Pets and more

on a cold night like today.  My aunt randomly threw a towel for our dog to use as a blanket and this was the result.  Needless to say, I ran off to get a camera yet skip was still motionless as if waiting for me to get her picture.  She's such a ham on this one.

Funny conversations

Me:  You have gotten so thin? you might be anemic?
Student: What do you suggest I would do, sir?
Me:  Take Sangobion for anemia
Student:  Will that make me FAT?

Consequently there's a student who does not know how to download the notes in my previous post.  (ORLY?) perhaps she was plain lazy for a prime being.

This Wednesday Aug3 I will be absent for my afternoon classes to get a flu vaccine from my doctor.  Assuming the schedule will not change.

Getting Old

Being a teacher has its share of ups and downs.  I just realized that I have been teaching for almost a decade.  Its amusing that I have never celebrated my work anniversary or anything.

I had just finished reading Jeph Loeb's Superman for all seasons. There's a very beautiful line:

We can be grateful for the seasons, no matter how cruel or harsh they may seem.  For it is only through their passage that we can truly appreciate the future.

Serendipity, perhaps? As the reading came in a time that I have been doubting my career choices.

Was my career choice not only good but did it inspire others to do good?

Good Luck? Bad Luck? Who's to say, too soon to say.  Too soon to say.

Gay Marriage in the Philippines

A lot of good google will do to you rather than reading some news.

Last week saw the solemnization of same sex marriages in Baguio by Bp. Richard R. Mickley of the Metropolitan Church Community Philippines (MCC).  I will try my best to be objective in sharing my readings, as opposed to a research, even if I am a devout Roman Catholic.

Bishop Richard R. Mickley has a blog too suffice to say his group isn't affiliated with the Vatican or the Archdiocese of Manila although their office is in Quezon City; they have adopted St. Aelred fo Rievaulx as their saint for Lesbian and Gays.  Incidentally, he is the bishop of Catholic Diocese of one spirit.  the group is in existence since 1991.

What the news tries to block on account of sensationalism is that this group has a freedom of religion, albeit questionable as it runs counter to our traditions and culture which itself becomes part of the law of the land.

If you have seen Br. Richard Mickley's garb, which can be found on his blog.  It raises the following question:

a.  Is the group really Catholic?
Based on their beliefs there are many parallels with Roman Catholicism as well as Greek Orthodox Catholicism but at certain point deviates from both religions.

b.  Is the marriage binding as far as our laws are concerned?
Law students will no doubt have an easy time in answering this question but Philosophy majors will spend more than a year pondering it.

c.  How different are they from Roman Catholicism?

But it can not be denied that they have made history in the Philippines.  They lived their "faith", they acted it on the way they trust it to be.

How about you? Does your faith bear fruit?

NOTE:
This article does not support MCC but it aims to awaken people from the idiocy of labeling something as bad based on pure conjecture or on a faith that they barely understand.

As I always say in Philosophy classes in U.V.:
"How can you say that something is bad if you had not tried it?" but then again curiosity killed the cat, satisfaction brought it back!!

Repost of my old poems

Dreams by Aljoriz M. Dublin

With the torrent of rain that greeted my day,
it is my hope that this luck would stay.
and If by chance I can no not smile
I just won’t let all my dreams to die

So all I can do is dream and dream
Think of all the brand new scheme.
Every waking day we plan and plan
as we work each day to please a fan.

Dreams of dreams o wonderful dreams
Live and love are not made of creams
So let us dream and plan to live a life
so that our stay in earth won’t be a strife.

The year that was

2010 was a good academic year, although I am sad to see a few of my good coworkers to move on to better academic pursuits. I can only content myself in the fact that I am staying with UV to fulfill a dream.

Still I am grateful that they have touched my life in a profound way. Many thanks goes to the following:

Dr. Jose Galleon
Dr. Bernardita Soledad

I will never forget your contributions to UV

Surfing 101: privacy protection.

Rule of thumb:

a. do NOT access your email, facebook, forums on a public Internet connection. Internet cafe or Wi-Fi hot spots are prime targets for hacking. So beware.

b. If you received a message that a friend is asking this money for whatever reasons. Throw it away! A friend in need will personally knock at your door to seek your help.

c. Be aware whatever you post can be read by anyone.

d. Be kind to people.

Pathetic 2010 elections

My beef with the election is not so much on the manner but on the procedure.

The BEI (Board of Election Inspectors) decided adding "priority numbers" to the process of election.  It resulted to frustration and long queues, most of my relatives decided to forgo voting as it is not worth the hassle.

Clearly the teachers didn't expect a massive turnout of voters.  At least I can say that I was part of history.

Joliclould pre-beta: review

If you happen to have a laptop, you would be hard pressed to look for a windows alternative OS.  Linux has over 1,000+ distro to choose from ubuntu, openSUSE, linux mint and more.  This review focuses on Jolicloud.

Created by Tariq Krim, which focuses on making a laptop centered linux distro.  Can it compete with Ubuntu Netbook? Easy peasy? read on.

Test machine: Asus EEEpc 1005ha.

Most linux distro lack support for various hardwares.  Along comes Jolicloud, at first glance it looks like a ubuntu rip-off, as its based on ubuntu, but it strives to make an OS that is user friendly to those who have never tried linux/ubuntu.  it has the following features:
  • customized for laptops (with over/under clocking options to adjust power consumption)
  • "one click install" for its many app available for free
  • supports 100% of the laptops in the market today.
  • after a software update it supports almost 100% of the 3G usb modems sold by smart / globe telcom in the Philippines.
THE GOOD STUFF:
If you never used linux J-cloud is the best distro for you.  It has the simple click and install for that windows feel.  There are many apps available like adobe air, vlc for video, mp3, and possible iphone in the final release.

Making a bootable usb thumb drive is easy in windows.  For Linux users, UNetbootin works very well with jolicloud.

You can install it within Windows (Ubuntu users are snickering as this feature is very common to their releases).  Install takes only 15min as opposed to the movie like install time of Windows.

All devices work out of the box!  Internal mic works great, camera is fantastic though the volume has to be adjusted manually for the hard of hearing (like me).

Like most Linux, this one is FREE.  So between a free OS and a commercial OS, you'd go for the free one right? Windows license does not come cheap today.

COMPLAINTS:
  • If you are a linux user, as of now you can download the ISO file via torrent only.  Window users have it easier.
  • Office apps are not built-in as you have to install them one at a time, imagine installing writer, calc and impress.  Although linux master can always use the sudo apt-get command.
As you can see the benefit out weight the negative aspects.

If you are a I.T. student/enthusiast/professional, give j-cloud a try by installing it on top of windows or beside it.  Ubuntu users might have to adjust with the absence of the package/software manager.

Give it a try, and share the free knowledge to all.

Is Wikipedia good as a research source?

Most researchers and teachers (I am guilty of this one to an extent) would cite wikipedia as a holy grail of knowledge but one fact still remains:  anyone can edit entries in wikipedia.  The first entry I edited was a minor edit on the Ubuntu OS page of wikipedia, adding Lubuntu and its description. I am not saying that what I added was erroneous but we must not ignore the fact that it can be edited by anyone.

There are many entries in wikipedia.org that are unbalanced.  Here's a good example from  penny-arcade.com click here to view the example.

Another one?
Search for Eli Soriano on wikipedia and you will see the constant changes to its entries by the supporters of Soriano and his 'enemies' in Inglesia In Cristo and other religious sects.

Wikipedia must be starting point of any research but it must not end there.  Remember Validity and Reliability are the important factors to a research.  If people would say they pick that data from wikipedia, that's as good as saying they got the information from a reliable rumor mill.

Always re-check with other encyclopedia based sites.  Do not trust everything that you read in the internet.

How to Unlock Smartbro (huawei)

NOTE: If you are in Cebu, as of March 18, 2010 Smartbro e1552 White models can be purchased at MSI / Accent Micro North Wing SM City Cebu.

If you happen to own a laptop and need internet access on the fly, I suggest you buy Smartbro E1552 model.  Its the only smartbro that can easily be unlocked/open lined.

Once open lined you can use any SIM card to access the net (Globe/Sun/Red).

google for "symbianize version of Huawei unlocker", download the software,

Enter the IMEI number for your 3G Dongle.  Write down the NCK code (8digits).

Remove the usb modem, and the Smartbro Sim; install any sim other than Smart (i.e. Globe / Sun).  Run the smartbro software and it will now ask for the unlock code.  Type the NCK code and press OK.  Go to settings and make a new profile with the following settings

UV Free Wi-Fi?

Among the greatest mysteries in the U.V. is the presence of the UV Free Wi-Fi signal, if you happen to bring a wi-fi enabled laptop at U.V. Main Campus you will find a UV "free" Wi-Fi Signal but you can never connect.

I can only wonder if its some sick practical joke by a BSIT student, where his laptop acts as a Wi-Fi Hot spot and uses the UV FREE Wi-Fi name.  I can only hope and pray that UV can offer a free Wi-Fi service otherwise its all globe tatto / smartbro for me.

As promised to my students for Society Culture with Family Planning, is the ppt (power point) version of my slide made open office

By the way, I am giving away free copies of Linux Mint 8 OS (but a new version is coming out in May).  Just approach me to request for a free copy of the 'best linux distro'... at least for me as I have tested Ubuntu, Puppy Linux and Slax.

Sex Education powerpoint

Some students prefer to use technology when studying.  If you are a student of mine on Sociology with Culture and family planning.  Do yourself a favor by viewing at my .ppt file.

The file is virus free, as I made it on a Linux system.  If you have difficulty in downloading, leave me a message either on this blog or via facebook.

Smartbro(ken) is now Smartbro(RYU)

I was stupid enough to try to "flash" my Smartbro ZTE MF627.  It 'bricked' my dongle so to speak.  I tried going to Smart Wireless at SM, which in turned refered me to Airtouch where I left my smartbro overnight with them.

The next day they told me they can't fix it and was that I can get a replacement form smart, who in turn told me that there are no stocks for smartbro usb.

I used Windows7 (pirated), installed the ZTE drivers,I searched the net for QPST and installed the default smartbro iso on it and some tweaks to make it the usb run automatically.  I changed back to Win XP (pirated) to test if it will work on a fresh install and it did work..

Imagine the so called 'experts' at Air Touch say that it requires a high level of expertise to fix this.

thanks to the power of the internet, everything is just chicken feed.

PolSci Days

Dec 14-15 saw UVPSS celebrating the annual PolSci Days, It was nice to see the studenty taking an active role in this extra curricular activity. Kudos to the Officers lead by the every humble Arnel Pahanonot.

Prior to the said date, Dec12 saw the celebration of the CAMPUS ROCK Concert as sponsored by Globe Telecom and the UV Student Council. Thank you, Alicaya for the nice globe number with the prefix of 6666*** he he he

I did use a self depreciating wise crack whilst acting as a moderator to the cebuano version of a debate.  Enjoy the Vacation, kupo!  Remember, class resumes on the 4th of January!!

Rise: The Spirit of Martial law

The President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo issued PD1959, declaring martial law on the province of Maguindanao.
The said decree cited the following grounds to wit:
Whereas, Sec. 18 Art. VII of the Constitution provides that “in case of invasion or rebellion, when public safety requires it, the President may, for a period not exceeding 60 days, suspend the privilege of the writ of habeas corpus or place the Philippines or any part thereof under martial law."

Whereas, Republic Act 6986 provides that “the crime of rebellion or insurrection is committed by rising publicly and taking arms against the government for the purpose of depriving the Chief Executive or the Legislature, wholly or partially, of any of their powers or
prerogatives."

Whereas, heavily armed groups in the province of Maguindanao have established positions to resist government troops thereby depriving the Executive of its powers and prerogatives to enforce the laws of the land to maintain public order and safety.
In the December 6 Mass in Sto. Rosario, the auxiliary Bishop of Cebu Julitio B. Cortes mentioned how the declaration of martial law would strike fear into the hearts of the citizens.  Saying a mistake can not be corrected by another mistake.

The legeslative department is split regarding the matter, Congress seems to support the action whereas Senate condemned the act asking "where is the rebellion and insurrection?"

One thing is certain, the Filipino people are in doubt and in fear.  With great trepidation, we await the Executive Departments constitutional task of reporting after the declaration of Martial law.

Abagan ang susunod na kabanata....

All men watch porn

all men watch porn is one of the best articles I have read on-line.  It debunks the notion that men imitate what they see or watching X movies purges vile sexual urges.

So go ahead if your wife catches you watching porn, say that it is a healty habit and a healthy male can't help but follow his instincts (and go to hell for it)

Reason why to study Photoshop

Here is one of my top reason why one should learn Photoshop skills.  I really should upgrade by computer skills, I admit that I so s*ck at photoshop that I can only resize photos with it.

Maybe I can find during the Christmas break and do something like this.

Not in season

With the start of the Christmas season, may we be able to look at our blessings with thanks in our hearts.  My good friend, Bashi, shared this pic over at Pinoy-N

It is with great trepidation that I share this pic with you.  Someday we will grow old and someday we will need the help of strangers.  Let us be one in this season of hope and just remember if some adults ride a jeep singing Christmas songs passengers and saying 'pasalamat kayo nag cacarol kami kesa mang holdup' clutch your bags and pray.

Invalid excuse letters

Here are some of the most inane excuse letter that I have found over the net, so kindly read and laugh:

"My son is under a doctor's care and should not take P.E. today. Please execute him."

"Please excuse Lisa for being absent. She was sick, and I had her shot."

"Dear School: Please ekscuse John being absent on Jan. 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, and also 33."

"Please excuse Gloria from Jim today. She is administrating."

"Please excuse Roland from P.E. for a few days. Yesterday he fell out of a tree and misplaced his hip."

"John has been absent because he had two teeth taken out of his face."

"Carlos was absent yesterday because he was playing football. He was hurt in the growing part."

"Megan could not come to school today because she has been bothered by very close veins."

"Chris will not be in school cus he has an acre in his side."

"Please excuse Ray Friday from school. He has very loose vowels."

"Please excuse Tommy for being absent yesterday. He had diarrhea, and his boots leak."

"Irving was absent yesterday because he missed his bust."

"Please excuse Jimmy for being. It was his father's fault."

"Please excuse Jennifer for missing school yesterday. We forgot to get the Sunday paper off the porch, and when we found it Monday, we thought it was Sunday."

"Sally won't be in school a week from Friday. We have to attend her funeral."

"My daughter was absent yesterday because she was tired. She spent a weekend with the Marines."

"Please excuse Jason for being absent yesterday. He had a cold and could not breed well."

"Please excuse Mary for being absent yesterday. She was in bed with gramps."

"Gloria was absent yesterday as she was having a gangover."

"Please excuse Burma, she has been sick and under the doctor."

"Maryann was absent December 11-16, because she had a fever, sore throat, headache, and upset stomach. Her sister was also sick, fever, and sore throat, her brother had a low grade fever and ached all over. I wasn't the best either, sore throat and fever. There must be something going around, her father even got hot last night."

2weeks

In the last 2weeks the Philippines became the center for news.

The Good news: Pacquiao wins and Efren Penafranca's Hero of the year award.
The Bad news: 57 journalist killed in Mindanao. Sure sign that the election season is upon us all.

All in two weeks alot of things happened.
I have given 2 subjects, only to be reassigned to another subject. In one of the classes that I handled on the first meeting, most of the student clapped their hands upon seeing that I will be their teacher. (mga sipsip? bwahahah)

It was hard adjusting to a teaching load of 8 straight torturous hours. I wanted to give my class the best of my teaching skills with some stand-up comedy routine mixed in the middle. Nothing is as stress killer like seeing my student laugh.

Hopefully my body would have adjusted to the new bio-clock. Still, working at 7 is such a drag even if I wake at 4am since time immemorial.

Long holiday ahead of us, folks! So sleep all you can.

Back to the Future

A good friend of mine from high school (I hope he still considers me as such) posted the HS Year book 1995. So in the spirit kalag-kalag I am posting my picture when I was in high school. I was so scrawny and small, I could be mistaken for a girl back then except for the absence of boobies.

Forward in college whilst working in Jollibee Mactan, a customer looked at my name plate and said "aljay? Are you a girl?". If that chick weren't so hot I would have (bleeeeeeeeeep) but that was in the past. Our mistakes made me who I am now and I am thankful for that.

UV Prepares for IQuAME

HERE ARE THE ANSWERS FOR THE ASSIGNMENT FOR THE 3rd week of November 2009. Remember to put it down in a half crosswise yellow paper.
******
IQuAME stands for Institutional Monitoring and Evaluation for Quality Assurance that is administered by CHED.

Schools who wish to attain autonomous status apply for it and set a schedule for a CHED visit whereby the school undergoes strict evaluation on four key areas:
1) Governance and management
2) Quality of teaching and research
3) Support for students
4) Relations with the community
5) Management of resources.

If the so-called “evidences” that the school compiles and shows matches with the criteria laid out by the Commission, then the subject school will most likely pass the acid test.

UV is applying for Category A (teaching) under IQuAME rules.

Donate blood and get a free gift

I always donate my blood every 2months except if I am not healthy enough to do it. On November 3, I donated my blood. I was surprised that red cross gave me a free red baller band. The token was enough to make me feel very special and as such I always wear it. So go ahead donate your plasma and get this limited edition red cross baller bracelet. Wear it proud knowing that you are a volunteer for the International Red Cross of the Philippines.

BTW donating blood is not as 'traumatic' as say getting an operation. The needles are not that big and the puncture is as painful as an ant bite, the minute pain is similar to my yearly flu vaccine; you also get a free orange juice when donating. I should know, I have donated almost more than a gallon of my blood he he he

Benefits:
Free Blood Screening (HIV/AIDS)
almost free blood replacement in emergencies (if you have donated a gallon or more)
FREE RED CROSS BALLER BRACELET for a limited time only

I... AM... SORRY

For those student who were not able to get the exam last semester, Feel free to contact me via email to schedule your make up exams. If you have not taken the exam chances are the grade might be INC or depending on your performance for the previous terms (pre to semi) there might not be any need to take the exams.

email me aljoriz at gmail dot com (change the dot to perio and at=@). I am doing this so that bots might not get my email. After all I hate autoBOTS he he he

FYI, I have not failed a student save for 2 who never attended classes or showed no interest at all in the subject.

I am very sorry as I was not able to serve students for the clearance signing due to some rapid works done on the general psychology book. I pray that this book will not be sequestered unlike my previous attempts to write a book (Philippine Constitution).

Feast of the Holy Rosary and funny stuff.

October is the month of the holy rosary and the birth month of the President of U.V.
(yay! Way klase?)

My last post was a total failure. As I forgot to post the link to where the coverage was posted but at least a student managed to post a feedback to inform me about my own stupidity.

A lot of funny stuff happened to me over the weekend to wit:

1. My GF decided to eat calamares at Jonie's Fried Chicken SM yesterday. (thank you for the food, bun!) She decided to get the spicy one, unbeknownst to her it was indeed very hot and spicy so much that she gave most of the calamares to me. Mao na rason why I am very healthy, again thank you bun!

2. I was telling my students how sex is expensive, I was detailing the litany of expenses on the birth of a child when out of the blue a student said 'Sir Mao na rason why wa pa ka minyo?'

******

I have successfully migrated from Microsoft Windows to UBUNTU 9.04, which is a great open source operating system. Also, I was able to get my gf's ANTIQUE pentium2 333mhz with 256mb ram up and running with ubuntu complete with music and video. Gamit man jud ang facebook sa iya. Maayo pa facebook tanawun niya kada adlaw ako dili hu hu hu

Asian civilization coverage

The time space continuity has shrunk this September with my birthday (he he), intramurals and the semi-finals in the horizon. As a consequence I am putting my history3 semi-final notes, for download. (pls click the download link.

The notes only serves as a guideline for my discussion and is not meant to replace the student-teacher interaction that a classic classroom setting can give.

If you have problems downloading them, try switching internet providers from GLOBE to PLDT he he he

UV Political Science election

July 30, 2009 - UV Political Science Society held its election of new officers. You can see how active college students can be. I felt kind of weird as I was not so active in the Polsci Society in my college days in USJ-R. I was even requested by the students to open the ceremonial ballot box. Kudos to Pahanonot, Arnel and company for winning and all polsci students for actively participating the event.

The event was totally yours!

Prelims: the start of cheating

Prelims are the start of the cheating in every colleges. I do get tired to reminding students that 'God is watching you from a distance'. Maybe it is human nature to do the short cut to things? I will not identify the students in the accompanying photo as such is a common sight to be hold. I will however pray that they would learn the value of honesty.

I have no plans of reporting cheating students to their respective Deans; it would merely be an exercise in futility.

I have never failed a student who gave his best in class even if his best is not the up to par.

On a side note nearly 50% passed the nursing board exam, the top notcher is from Verallo Memorial Foundation! I can hear you ask: 'Where is zat?' its at BOGO, a northern province of Cebu. This proves that urban and rural student are on the same learning plane.

Since my pop hails from Daan Bantayan, the northern most town of Cebu, I wonder if its not too late for me to change careers he he he.

Blood donation

Only 25% of my class are based at the main campus, the other 75% I spend them at the Banilad college of nursing of U.V. When I reminiscence of my early pre-college days, I am amused by the fact that I was not able to enter a pre-med course yet here I am teaching nursing students. Life has some wicked sense of humor.

Today, Red Cross visited U.V. Banilad for a blood letting activity. I would have loved to give my blood but I had made a donation last month so I am precluded to donate until August. I took the liberty to take the photos of these courageous female students. They withstood the prying eyes of their classmate whilst donating. To give you a mental image, imagine all of your classmates peering down on you as if you were some amphibious creature to be dissected.

Despite it all these ladies are heroes in their own right. Willing to sacrifice their blood (not menstrual) for the sake of giving life to their fellowmen. Now, if only I can remember if they were my students. We need more people like them. The picture begs some caption but I am keeping my comic side away. This is their day!

I have no doubt that they will have the best sleep. Sweet dreams are made of these and who am I to disagree?

Updates on H1N1 and dengue seminar

The U.V. college of nursing sponsored a seminar on the updates about a(h1n1) and dengue fever. The over capacity crowd at the U.V. Inday Pining Teatro were able to combat those disease through the use of proper information dissemination.

The resource speaker was Dr. Faith Villanueva, if I am not mistaken. I had my students in Polsci 114/8 attend the said activity. The accompanying picture is that of my students who were seated at the back part of the AVR.

Is that for the purpose of being the first to go out once the event has folded up? he he he

BTW for the real origin of A(H1N1) virus kindly view my post last May entitled "Swine Flu: Origins" click here.

History1 TTh video drama.

Once upon a time, students were forced by their 'totalitarian' teacher to role play 'pamalaye' in their class. The result was a laugh-a-ton of entertainment here is a very short 'sweet' scenes from the school activity. Sir Galeon, who is dramatic thespian, would be proud of them

History1: ka drama baya nila

I would have wanted to add some photoshoped ballon on these wonderful picture of my students in action. However, I am so LAZY as of the moment. I would upload the wacky vids later, if I am not lazy enough. In the meantime enjoy this pictures. I love the picture at the middle, did they have some brokeback mountain moment whilst viewing the drama?

These photos were taken the spirit of fun. I apologize to students whose pictures were taken w/o their permission. Next time I would seek the approval of your talent managers he he

New U.V. Main campus wash area

In response to the global awareness of hand washing as a means to prevent the spread of diseases, the University of the Visayas has installed 2 new wash area. It is equipped with a anti-bacterial soap. Students, personnel and faculties alike are reminded to wash their hands.

Make use of the facilities of your school!!!

My favorite aunt

Due to some back problems I can no longer go jogging with my favorite aunt and my dalmatian. I can only pray that my pain is not forever. In the meantime, here is a picture of my favorite aunt.

Love team of the semester

History 1 MW 6:30-8pm
I required my students to re-enact the traditional pamahinkan or pamalaye. Needless to say I am amused and awe how some students gave their best, I am also flabbergasted at how some students do not seem to care for group dynamics. To each his own, I guess.

I can't help but post a pic of these 'perfect couple' who played lovers in a class activity. They just seem so photogenic together he he anyway enjoy the picture for now!

Hatsukoi Limited

After nearly four months, the anime series Hatsukoi Limited has come to a close. The animation style closely resembles the cult classic I's.

Hatsukoi Limited is about a romantic high school life anime of eight girls in middle school and high school. What I loved about the series is that it manages to show how both sexes think about love and affection.

This anime is classified as Shōnen hence you can expect a lot of fan service for guys. If you have loved the animated series BOYS BE. This is a series that will make you smile after each episode and feel as if you have been kissed for the first time. This is my hobby in my off time: watching anime!

wakapman: pacquiao superhero

Philippines - when Transformers: revenge of the fallen was shown in theaters it carried a viral trailer for the movie. Wapakman!

The good 30sec. trailer that give absolutely nothing about the movie save for some people being beaten to a pulp. It is reported to have the following cast: Pussy Cat Doll Nichole Scherzingger as the love interest and Dave 'The animal' Batista as arch nemesis.

Feedback was generally positive for trailer of the first international movie to be produced by Manny Pacquaio. As with most boxers who entered showbiz, they become comedians. I am sharing this humorous photoshoped picture of the Pambansang Kamao.

How I wished I had such photoshop skills. I, for one, can't wait to watch this film. If you will watch only one tagalog movie this year?

MAKE IT WAPAKMAN!!!

Transformers exhibit

Today I went to SM to watch the GMA Kapamilya day but due to the queue I decided to forgo the original plan and went to see the transformers exhibit for a second time around. Often, I would ask myself what made these toys so attractive to my eyes 25years ago? The toys were obviously old yet kept in pristine condition. The old toys were very much block looking the way th

So clockwise:

Lynx, if I am not mistaken
Various incarnations of the autobot Optimus prime on a shelf.
Custom Protectobot, by Ryan Uybengkee, combined to form by Defensor.

I find it sad they did not have the constructicons generation1 and movie counter-part present nor is their dinobot complete for display except for the fan favorite Grimlock. For a free exhibit, I can not demand too much from them.

Makes me wonder: Are these toy owners the only toy collectors in Cebu? I am sure there is more than meets the eye on the matter. If only SM and toy kingdom, whom presumably sponsored the event, reached out to the many. I hope there will be more toy exhibits like this event.

MICHAEL JACKSON: RIP

The world mourns the death of a great singer/actor/artist. Michael Jackson.

Despite the child abuse cases, baby displaying sagas of this ubiquitous artist of the 90's.

I found out the news whilst browsing the net on my choppy SE K800i. At first I thought it was RIP: Michael Jordan but after reading it properly it was Jackson, pala!

I read on the ABC News that Madona cried so much hearing the death of the King of pop; for some odd reason I pictured Madonna crying so hard and saying 'OMG, I might be next!'. I reckon I might have been reading too much Pugad Baboy 21 (please buy it and help the fledgling pinoy comic industry.

2009 First day High

Teaching has always been draining for me. It's an emotional roller coaster so when I was offered asian civilization in U.V. Banilad for nursing students, I grabbed the chance as it would mean getting a breathe of fresh environment. Nursing students are easier to teach as their comprehension is better than some.

This semester the Institutional Monitoring and Evaluation for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (IQuAME), under the CHED, will be visiting the Main Campus of the U.V. They would even drop by at the least expected time, we faculty members must be prepared (cue in the song 'be prepared' from the movie Lion King! I loved that film.)

I have to make changes to my method of class record making. The Dean wanted me to make it in such a way that even non teachers would understand how the grade was computed. Am I the only teacher in the CAS department that uses MS-Excel in computing grades?

I don't know but maybe going old school is cool sometimes, don't you think?

I just hope to be the best at what I do even if at times people would hate me for it.

On a related note, it was ego massaging to know that some students would always ask me if I would handle their subject; some would even go as far as adding my teaching load to their courses. I have not seen any of them this week though, it might be safe to say that I was Punked!

I hope to improve my batting average of giving grades as some say 'tihik daw ko sa grades' which is not true but then again I will do my best.

If you have been following my blog, aside from my dutiful girlfriend, you would have noticed that the themes of pictures for the blog are totally unrelated to the contents of the post. I intentionally made it like that to make it more fun and amusing.

So know you understand the mystery of the *******

Not in U.V.

How I wished I was the teacher who checked this answer sheet.

Below is the reply of the instructor who checked this testpaper.

Dear Michael,

Every year I attempt to boost my students' final grades by giving them this relatively simple exam consisting of 100 True or False questions from only 3 chapters of material. For the past 20 years that I have taught Intro Communications 101 at this institution I have never once seen someone score below a 65 on this exam. Consequently, your score of a zero is the first in history and ultimately brought the entire class average down a whole 8 points.

There were two possible answer choices: A (True) and B (False). You chose C for all 100 questions in an obvious attempt to get lucky with a least a quarter of the answers. It's as if you didn't look at a single question. Unfortunately, this brings your final grade in this class to failing. See you next year!

May God have mercy on your soul.

Sincerely,
Professor William Turner

P.S. If all else fails, go with B from now on.
B is the new C

Halcyon days of the summer

I always loved that bleach episode that uses the word HALCYON. It means an idle, tranquil day. My absence from the net is cause by my move to switch DSL providers, having been with GLOBE for over five years and understanding how bad their service made me switch to the other provider. If you are wondering who that pretty black err morena girl is, she is the College of Arts and Science Ms. Rose of Summer. She gamely decided to post for this blog.

As for the other pictures, those are of my students in Philosophy having a hearty debate whilst some of them having it up for the cam. Sir Pat Acobodillo does an introduction to the summer days of U.V.

Until here folks, keep the faith!

Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things

In the afternoon, I had my Logic class see "The Shawshank Redemption"; a film based on a short story by Stephen King. It was fun to share a piece of my favorite movie; I did the same to a summer class last year. The result is always the same, they would say it is the best film they have ever seen despite the film being dated or old; I am not sure if some of them cried when a crucial character died, but it is safe to say that majority of them were teary eyed.

A student would always end up borrowing my original DVD copy of the said film, to share the experience with their family. Granted not all of the students were present, some may have even skipped class but those who decided to stay saw an emotionally gripping tale of the human will.

I just hope they learned a thing or two about hope and the power of positivity. Its a sad note that Shawshank lost to Forrest Gump in the oscars but Shawshank had a cult following and enjoyed fan support on DVD. Do the film a favor and buy it whenever possible.

BB blogs

April 23
Rustom er BB gandanghari wanted to watch Rannie Raymundo's show at the Aruba, a posh club in Manila. Due to the extremist belief of the club. BB was shoved, figuratively, out of the premises.

Personally, I have nothing against the '3rd sex' as long as they don't try to 'sex me up'. This even just shows how far civil freedom can go in this country. Granted there are places where cross dressers are not welcome like say the Archbishop's Palace of Cebu but in a socially interactive society that involves no religious overtones we must respect the right of one another.

Even if that right pertains to their gender.

Here is a stolen photo of a person taking a passive respite from the five hour blackout in Cebu City. The photo was taken at SM City today with my significant other.

Without further ado here are the assignments for my Logic class at the U.V. Cebu

1. What is a barbara type of syllogism and what does it stand for?
2. What is Aristotle's definition of syllogism?
3. Give one example of everyday syllogistic mistakes.

Red Mobile: now good for all phones

Early this year I totally cursed Red Mobile; but as of the moment I can no longer complain.

I tried using my Red Mobile Sim on 'dated' Sony Ericsson k800i using the GSM network setting alone. Much to my surprise, it worked! So to be sure I borrowed an old Nokia 1200 from my aunt and tried using the Red Mobile sim. Nokia 1200 is a GSM network phone only with nary a 3G capabilities.

the result Red Mobile still worked. Its a good thing that I didn't throw away the old Red Mobile sim. The only question that remains are the following:

Will I now use Red Mobile as my primary sim?

Would the public now embrace Red Mobile?

How come Red Mobile, as a subsidiary of SMART, never made such announcement?

Php 0.5 text or call for Red to Red Mobile, will the public now switch to Red or will they start 'turning red' literally and figuratively.

Let us wait and see!!

Student picture: a violation of privacy

As much as I wanted to take pictures of seemingly 'sweet' students, their right of privacy hinders me to upload such picture. After all I would not want to have a student take a picture of me pissing or taking a sh*t.

I apologize to a certain student the word 'shit' is technically not a bad word per se as it is translated to FECES in tagalog 'TAE'.

As fun as teaching is I can not for the record say that all of my students enjoy my class; I was a student after all, who can stomach a person doing a monologue for more than an hour? Due to the nature of my job I have to talk non-stop. This explains why my girl (not a dog) would complain why my voice is so low in volume.

For students of mine, I hope that this blog would bring 'Sir' closer to you and know how he is as a person in hopes of making you say: 'at least this guy has the testicular fortitude to smile'

Remember:
Smile and the world smiles with you.

Sleepy summer

As a result of constant morning jogs and lack of sleep, my aunt takes powerful cat naps to re-energize her body. In a effort to show how much I adore her, as to opposed to ridicule, I am uploading her photo in the internet for all to see.

Yes, we all take cat naps. The banana in front of her is actually for sale.

U.V. Summer meeting.

Cebu City - The University of the Visayas College of Arts and Sciences held a meeting last April 17, 2009 for the purpose of informing and preparation for the upcoming I.Q.U.A.M.E on May 1-2.

The Philippine government's program on Institutional Monitoring and Evaluation for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (IQuAME), under the flagship of the Office of the President, Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

As always, I am not in the photo as I am the official maniniyot sa department.

Catching up for the summer

As a result of my recurring Asthma and sometimes coupled with fever, I got a flu shot from my doctor. Despite the photo looking like my ass cheeks (and no I have not actually seen my ass cheeks, its actually one of my biceps. The redness of the shot is still visible and a bit sore when moving the arms.

As I result I might not be able to go to gym for a day or two. So much for the so called 'weight loss' program. I still have a nasty pain on my lower left lower lung when breathing deeply, so I was given another medication called 'Omeprazole'. Dr. Polloso deduced that my ails are based either on Peptic Ulcer Disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease but since he has never been wrong since I dutifully followed his prescription.

Please pray for our continued health.

Semestral end photos

Alot of things has happened lately and I can't think of a way of putting all of the events in this blog so I decided to college the best photos I had for the summer. The students in a sack were from Nathaniel Guido's English class; which much to my amusement is very creative. I hope to find time to blog more about the crazy things in my life but as of the moment I will let the pictures say a thousand words.

Students of the week

Sorry for the delay of posting this one. We have two students of the week. From the College of Arts and Sciences we have from left to right Ivonah Carcedo (I added the extra 'h' for hentai, er fun) and Darling Wagas. Both beauties of the said department are presumably in a happy and loving relationship with someone. They were chosen as this blogs student of the week due to the following:

Their academic standing and the degree of participation in Campus related activities.

Ms. Wagas is a graduating student this semester and we pray that she will remain humble, beautiful, and successful in her future endeavors. She was a constant fixture to various activities acting as an emcee and at times an entertainer, unlike those found in bars, for her classmates. With her close-up smile and colgate confidence, if only looks could kill.

Ms. Carcedo will continue to pursue studying in hopes of making it big in the real world. She is starting to 'replace' Ms. Wagas on the breath of her visibility in various activities like the CAPSO days, with the loving support of her father and a school mate as a special someone. We have no shadow of doubt that she can go the distance.

Photos posted were taken with their consent.
